Disco Scratch

Back in 1991 I picked up Def J, Mad Bomber and KLA from the train station in Pompey as they had a jam booked at the Polytechnic.  Now I just cannot remember how we got together, I can’t even remember if I hooked it up, I’m sure my man Comic Shop Dan had something to do with organising this… Mr K was a student in Pompey at the time and that was deffo the connection but how it all worked out I just can’t remember… the long and short of it was that these live dudes were in my motor and having a right crack, running down each other with mum jokes, slurping on the blue thunderbirds (all except J) and being raucous, after all, it was a day at the seaside for these guys!!!

This was the start of a friendship lasting nearly 2 decades.  Tonight I bring you Original One, aka Def J, frontman of Encona Coarse, the lyrical scientist who devastated our ear canals with “Rhyme Grenade”, “Streets” and the coveted “Just Save It”.  J’s career is still ongoing and shows no signs of slowing down.  We spoke for over three and a half hours, I managed to get this down to 2 hours and 20 minutes, damn homey is deep!!!  So great to reconnect after all this time… for those that don’t know O1 came and wrecked shop with a dope performance at the Heroes Of UK Hip Hop Jam back in 2007, which was about a year after we reconnected.  Now listen to the story that formed this heavyweight MC and what this lyrical Jedi has done in his career… download after the tracklist…
