New UK Lessons mix by BULLI – Lesson Zed (A tribute to Steinski)

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Electro, MP3 Download, Mash Up, Mix CD | Posted on 09-08-2009

The Disco Scratch Forum has stated to attract some new members, one of which is a guy named BULLI.

He posted in the mixtape section about a mix he did, a tribute to Steinski.

If you are not familiar with Steinski, I suggest you check him out ( http://steinski.com ). He’s responsible, along with Double Dee, for the Lessons mixes. Originators of cut & paste and massively inspirational in the sampling and cut up worlds within Hip Hop. Artists like Art of Noise, Latin Rascals, Cold Cut & Mantronik all owe them credibility. In the Lesson Zed thread in the forum I have put a link to the Solid Steel Podcast which featured a lengthy interview with Double Dee & Steinski, breaking down their experiences when making the Lessons mixes and make for very interesting reading. The thread is here

So onto Bulli’s mix, it was really refreshing to hear someone putting this much effort in to a mix, especially as they are from Blighty. I’m sure you’ll agree the mix is Stupid Fresh, check it out and get in the forum to discuss it! Bulli makes a lot of music and you can check him out here. Big up to Bulli for the mix and I look forward to putting some more up soon.

ENJOY…

Big Jim & Waxer, 1996 Mixtape, SO Much Class

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, CD Rip, Mix CD, Tape Rips | Posted on 14-03-2009

I went to Battle Of The Year in Germany in 1996 with Big Jim & Panoramix from the OPM crew, meeting along the way some old faces like Aroe & Born To Rock, plus some new ones, like Disorda & Trix (well, new old ones!)

Me and Jim did a mixtape which we took to battle of the year to sell.  It was called “So Much Class” and had a megamix on the A side of old hip hop and the flip had all new cuts.  I used a 4 track recorder and my Amiga to knock it up.. it was pretty dope actually… Jim supplied all the vinyl for the tape and I knocked the mix up.

Here’s the cover:

waxer_big_jim_so_much_class

Well.. the problem is… I don’t have the tape anymore, and neither does Jim.  In fact the only person I know who definitely has a copy is Kilo from the SIN Cru, who bought one and used the mix on a graf Video he was doing at the time.  SO you ask… what’s the point of this post?  Well, I’m asking if anyone that comes on DS has either got a copy of this tape, or knows someone that does, cos I’d like to rip it to MP3 and share it.

If you can help, either add a comment to this post or drop me an e-mail, thediscoscratch@gmail.com

Thanks all, and here’s a beat I made back in the day (around ’98) just for the hell of it, from an EP I did for my own label, WaxWorx Records, the Symbiosis EP… this cut’s called Anything IS Possible (Instrumental).  5 thou!

Greg Wilson – No Sell Out Mix

Posted by Waxer | Posted in CD Rip, Greg Wilson, Mix CD | Posted on 06-03-2009

greg-samurai

This is the second mix in a series of 4 CDs that I am uploading here.  You can cop the first one, an alternative mix of Electro UK HERE.  It is the first part of a 2 part mix.  As it is such a great mix, I wanted to get the full fat, and so it is ripped at 320kbps/16 bit/44.1khz/stereo MP3.

Greg did this mix for Samurai FM back in 2005.  There is a page on his site dedicated to this mix so I won’t go into too much depth here, but please go to the mix on his site, Electro Funk Roots .  There is also a page on Samurai FM, which you can find HERE.

Here is a single paragraph quote from Electro Funk Roots, which sums up the mix:

“It’s difficult to believe that this show, a retrospective of the influential tracks from 1982/83, pre-dated the acid house explosion by half a decade yet the sounds still sound so fresh more than 20 years later and in them you can easily identify the origins of the genres that continue to push the scene forward to this day. Equally as impressive is that a mix such as this is possible given the complexities of the remixing and editing of tracks involved in this mix with the technology available at the time. Today production and DJ technology may have developed light years compared to what they were then but the ideas they were based on are still mainly used to this day.”

Here’s the tracklist, trust me it really is a dope mix!  Download at the bottom….  Once again, many thanks to Greg himself.

Greg Wilson Alternative UK Electro Mix

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, CD Rip, Electro, Mix CD | Posted on 11-02-2009

Greg In The MixA couple of years ago I was contacted by Greg Wilson.  For those that might not know this guy, he was a very influential DJ in the fledgling Electro Scene in the UK and responsible for breaking a lot of records in the early 80s.

I won’t go too deep into his history as you can get it all from his main website, Electro Funk Roots

Greg replied to a post that I had made in a forum about the Street Sounds Electro series and my complete love for those LPs.  He told me about his involvement in the early days and much to my surprise made the effort of sending me 4 CDs and some printed information about himself, his history and his career.  This was a fantastic piece of history to receive and I am very greatful to him for contacting me.

This post is the first in a series of Greg Wilson related posts, giving you audio from these CDs.  Anyone with an ounce of interest in the UK Electro scene from the early 80s should thoroughly enjoy these CDs.

electrouk1

This first slice of history is an alternative Mix that Greg did of the Electro UK Streetsounds compilation.  If you want to check that out, but do not already have it, you can cop that from the Electro Vault site, he sells the complete collection on a DVD, I got mine yo!

I strongly recommend you check his site out and really have a good poke around at the history, this guy has really pushed this music we love so give him his props!

Anyway, here’s the audio, please leave a comment, let me know if you like it!  It’s just over half an hour long and I ripped it at 320kbps/16 bit/44.1khz/stereo so it’s top notch quality.  I’ll be upping the other tracks from this CD and the others over the coming weeks.  Peace out!

Dope Old School UK Hip Hop mix by Keef Wookie T.F.P.

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, CD Rip, Mash Up, Mix CD | Posted on 12-01-2009

K Wook is an old school head outta Swansea Wales and by crikey does he love his old beats.  He’s part of the T.F.P. crew with DJ Demo and a couple other lads.

This mix has loads of dope UK tunes on it, trust me, the cuts and blends are marvelous my Disco Scratching bredren!

dj_demo_k_wook

The mix is called Memories of mayhem.  It’s the 2nd mix on this CD.  The first one is also a def mix, concentrating on the mid to late 80s US stuff, like Rakim, BDP. Ultras, all mixed to devestating effect.  If there is demand for it I’ll up it in another post.  Actually the mix is on Demo’s myspace page, it’s called “Scratch My Itch Up”.

This mix is 1m 32s long and it’s ripped at high quality.

I hadn’t spoken to these cats before but had a brief chat on Myspace, talking of which, their myspace pages are:

http://www.myspace.com/modemodemo (DJ Demo)

http://www.myspace.com/lordwook (K Wook)

They are part of the TFP crew, so get on their pages and let ‘em know how stupid fresh the mix is, courtesy DS.

Enjoy, SWAYZE!!!
