Real life eh??? Kids ever growing, mortgage rising, bills glorious bills… (ahem maybe a slice of expensive wax every now & again, SHHHH!!! Don’t tell Corrina!) …means I am moving on from the Midlands back down South to Kent, on the coast… where mobile phone reception is wafty & broadband speeds match 1998 dial up… because of what I’ve got going on I’ve had to put the kibosh on the radio show for a bit and well, practically EVERYTHING not to do with work, family, or moving!.

So, this show is the VERY LAST LIVE SHOW EVER to be broadcast from the Palace Of Villainy… for those that have visited me here, you’ll know the name is very apt… it is in the cellar of a 100 year old (ish) victorian town house where weird shit a gwaarn… I have had the spirit of Norman Wisdom with me down here for a fair while bless him… you may remember the shows with the webcam on in the heady days of Ustream & Livestream (yeah, thanks for all the adverts SUCKAS!!!) and see me, Snoop, Finchy rockin’ the Cazals… LG playing biscuit roulette, my mellow REPO136 for the Star Wars Special… (I’m getting misty eyed here!!!)

The POV also had Mic master Def J a/k/a Original One in the booth, Whirlwind D both recording EPs (watch out next year)…let’s see… yep, Repo, Finchy, Lady from Heroes made an appearance once, Scenes14 from Suspekt rolled by, LG from Style Warrior… they all signed the King Of The Beats 3 foot squared plyboard spray that Pritt did, I won it back in 2009 as Birmingham champ… (if you’re interested you can here it below…)

So, a lot of Hip Hop has been absorbed into these walls, a lot of Red Stripe, Dragon Stout & Wrey & Nephew has oiled my innards in here… and more tea than you can possibly imagine has been consumed here…

I’m not normally a teary eyed kinda guy, but having a cellar like this to make beats, do the radio, have MCs in, get loose on the decks… it’s every DJ/Producers dream… I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for supporting the show, all my ideas and stuff, the music… but most of all I thank you all for supporting the UK Hip Hop Scene… without the likes of you guys, sites like mine, Websta’s Heroes Of UK Hip Hop & Repo136′s Ageing B Boys Unite would fall by the way side… so hats off to you… YOU ARE THE UK HIP HOP SCENE.

Wow, again. ‘…Kangaroo‘ is a classic with it’s ingenious use of a particular Simon Harris voiceover over Rolf Harris but ‘..Tipton‘, well, that’s another story. I’ve heard this a number of times and yet I still fall about giggling with tears in my eyes EVERY TIME. Whoever made this is truly a master of this craft.

Nepaul - An Old School Project

Back in 2007 I joined a website called DopeTracks.  This site allows you to upload beats that others can rhyme on for collaborations & vice versa.  It was a refreshing community of like minded people that were willing to collab.

So, the site gradually got flooded with toys/crab fakers/wack ass MCs & beatmakers, but there was always a core of heads that just know that right mix of ingredients to Wreck Shop.  I have done collaborations with several MCs on this site, including the MC behind “An Old School Project”, Nepaul.  He kicked the ballistics on the cut I did with him & Monsta Matt, ‘Flippin’ (below)

I really love this EP, not many new EPs come out with all or nearly all dope cuts on it, but this really ticks all the boxes.  Nepaul is an MC in the true sense of the word and delivers effortless flows over dope production & scratching with clever wordplay, but never over complex.  You can hear that Nepaul is at home on a mic and drops nice bars on these boom bap productions.  These are all dope tracks, but “Perfection” is my personal favourite.

Theory77 - Somewhat Familiar

When I did the show this week, I was dropping a couple of mixes prior to going live & early birds who were tuned in to DSR would have caught this super dope mix from my bredren Theory 77… I’ve known this cat for a long time & if ya nah know ‘im you can peep him here & here he has a few other web presences… if you dig him you can search the same as me…

I first met him in the mists of the mid 90s in Pompey… Theory is one of the sickest turntablists ever to bless a deck and has gone from strength to strength with his Radio Rust Podcasts… he is also an ill kid on the mic and seems to have one of these brains that can split complicated routines and send messages to different parts of his body that respond with ultramagnetic dopeness!

This mix was noted as a mix of excellence by My Mellow Repo136, ensure you peep his site & all you ageing B Boys drop him a shout for his Disco Scratch Radio Takeover show, last Thursday of every month, as he goes on a mission to ensure Mike Allen is CORRECTLY REMEMBERED in what might be a UK FIRST, a recreation of a radio show… all he wants is your shouts for your crew… BUT, the crew you repped in 1985, not now!… hit him up yo!

So the missus is another year older on Friday 3rd June…we had a laugh in the POV and I just played a load of tunes augmented with a couple large glasses of Courvoisier, which was nice!  If you like a bit of old soul, funk, rare groove etc, plus a bit of other stuff chucked in for good measure, have a listen!
