Sarah Love Originators Mix

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Sarah Love, UK Hip Hop History, UK Hip Hop Radio Shows | Posted on 16-02-2010

Dan Fluent just really has got his finger on the pulse, I’d miss half this stuff if it weren’t for him!

Sarah Love… she’s a DJ on 1xtra and does a decent show once a week on a Friday night/Saturday morning starting at 01:00am on Saturday.  She normally drops a lot of material that appeals to old Waxers’ ear canals and hence here’s the UK Originators mix from her show last Saturday 13th Feb.  Here’s the tracklist:

    1. Cookie Crew — A Word To The Conscious

  1. Caveman — Whole 9 Yards … And Then Some

  2. Demon Boyz — Glimity Glamity

  3. Katch 22 — Lifestyles Of The Poor & The Ruffneck

  4. London Posse — How’s Life In London

  5. MC Mell’O’ — A Total Eclipse Of The Art

  6. Cash Crew — Microphone Maniac

  7. Hijack — Style Wars

  8. Blade — Lyrical Maniac

  9. Outlaw Posse — Stop The Negativity

  10. Krispy — Destroy All The Stereotypes

  11. The Brotherhood — Put Up Or Shut Up

  12. Newtrament — London Bridge Is Falling Down

  13. Son of Noise — Funk Meets Son of Noise

  14. Gunshot — No Sell Out

  15. Monie Love — Monie In The Middle

  16. Silver Bullet — 20 Seconds To Comply (Final Conflict)

A lot of tunes that most of you will already know, but still, take my hat off to her for dropping the flavour and educating a new audience… The whole show was dope actually and next week she’d got 2 dope UK MCs in the house, Endemic & Nottz Mic pro Cappo.  Show some love for the Love!

Pz, Wax.

Simon Harris on DJ Semtex

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, MP3 Download, Semtex, Simon Harris, UK Hip Hop History, UK Hip Hop Radio Shows | Posted on 13-02-2010

Last night I was fumbling about on the net and my old pal Dan Fluent posted up on FACEBOOK that Music Of Life label owner was on DJ Semtex’s show on 1xtra.  Personally, I don’t think Semtex represents Hip Hop… not my definition of it anyway, and I couldn’t actually be arsed to listen to all the dog shit that he plays just to hear the interview with Simon Harris, so I waited until it was up on iPlayer and ripped it to post up here so you get straight to the meat.

I haven’t actually fully listened to this yet so I can’t comment on the content, but Simon Harris’ imprint MOL played probably the most important part in the development of UK Hip Hop since the Electro series from Morgan Khan’s Streetsounds label.  For the unaquainted, MOL was responsible for the first DJ scratch tools that I was aware of, the Breaks, Beats & Scratches LPs.  He was responsible for signing Derek B (the first MOL release being “Good Groove”) and probably the ultimate UK britcore anthem “Untitled” by Hardnoise.

His vision opened up a lot of careers… other artists include MC Duke & Daddy Freddy, and probably my top UK crew Demon Boyz.  He also released the Hard As Hell series, plus the Live Hustlers convention, opening up more avenues for underground UK artists.

Enjoy this and leave a comment about what you thought about Simon Harris’s statements… peace, Waxer.

King Of The Beats Birmingham 2009

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Battle Weapon, MP3 Download, UK Hip Hop History, Waxer Demo Track, podcast | Posted on 06-10-2009

Last Thursday I went down to the Hare & Hounds in the South of Brum. Got a lift with DJ Cro (respect for the grub mate!), then into the venue to meet Pogo, Sparkii, Pritt, Mikey D, Maurizio (RSC) Beatmaster and a load of proper Hip Hop heads. Kosyne came up as well and we had a chat, nice one mate ( http://louisden.com )

So I got on stage to do my bit, a little LL Cool J “I’m Bad” intro, followed by the beat. I did 3 parts to the beat as there was loads of material on the records I bought to make a beat out of… and Pritt got back £9 change from a score!

Here’s some pics:

KOTB_WAX_MIKEYD

The night was wicked, with Cro dropping a bad boy underground set, followed by Ian Beatmaster rockin the wheels, then it was me (no one to battle, my opponent Darren Myers never showed up) followed by Sparkki rockin the mic, some beatbox and freestytles, then Pogo ripped it up with some B Boys out the crowd doing their thing, followed by Mikey D tering up the stage!

What a night and to top it off Mikey D announced we are going to do a track together! Can’t ask for more than that!

So here’s the track I made, props to Pritt for his ongoing support love & dedication to Hip Hop, to Mikey forblessing the mic and still slamming MCs on cement after nearly 30 years in the game!

To Pogo/Cro/Beatmaster for killing it on the wheels of steel, Sparkii for all his hard work & ongoing commitment to the scene, Keith for all the background work you did (respect to the molecule), and to all the heads I spoke to in the crowd nuff respect for turning up and supporting real Hip Hop!

Lastly sorry to the geezer who’s head nearly got taken off when I threw my breaks into the crowd!

UK Fresh 97 Programme

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Memorabilia, UK Hip Hop History | Posted on 06-09-2009

If you had a time machine and went back to Folkestone in the UK on valentines day 1997 sometime early afternoon, you’d see a red nosed skinhead in a work jacket suffering from sinusitis that made his FACE CREAK in a queue of other True School heads waiting to get into the best event I’ve ever been to.

Fresh_97_1_Web

Fresh 97 ran for 3 days and was a legendary jam. There is no real way I can capture the essence of that jam by writing, putting videos up, literally there’s nothing I can do. If you were there maybe this post will jog some memories.  Basically when I was there I decided to get as many acts to sign my programme as possible, I got most of ‘em…  So the other week I scanned my entire programme, trimmed the images in photoshop then created a PDF document from the images.  So I’ve decided to put it up for download for your perusal.  All the images are high res so this PDF with only 8 images weighs in at just under 30MB.

I hope you enjoy a slice of UK History, maybe leave a comment if you were there?

I was going to post where the DVD is available from, but the place I got mine from doesn’t exist any more and I ended up giving it away in a competition on the radio!  (I’ll be asking him for a copy!)

Here’s some YouTube action of Trix presenting “Out Of Control”

So anyway, enough twoddle, here’s the download of the PDF:
