It’s Sunday… my dad came over from Pompey and is staying locally, we had lunch in a pub, came back, had tea at my yard…he went back to his holiday let with his missus, so then it’s me with a few Red Stripes, son number one doing homework, missus is doing the kids uniforms ready to go back after Easter, then in the front room with a movie on LoveFilm through the xbox, the daughter is pushing her luck staying up late!… so I’m on the lappy listening to bits and bobs thinking about the show and I thought I’d get another show on mixcloud… so here is show number 2, with Blade in interview and I relistened to it while tagging it and this man is just inspirational… stream this now and just feel the inspiration, funk & skills flow through your speakers…

Today, I took the decision to move the shoutcast servers to a new server. Recent DDOS attacks against a certain customer on the node, have meant we have seen a small amount of downtime.

We have removed the abusive customer, and got the node back online last night. However this node is running hardware that is getting to be outdated (compared to our hosting/gaming servers).

So we have taken the decision to transfer all our shoutcast customers to a new server, which has better hardware with increased performance.

Ya see? Should I tell them that Norman was behind these attacks?

Anyways, the guys up at zFast are great to deal with, stuff like this happens somettimes, whatyagonnado???  So they reacted fast and got it sorted.  So, show is back on this week, thanks y’all!

So at 8PM tonight I was (and still am as I am posting now) stuck at a customers premises configuring a CCTV recorder to work online.  I resoloved myself to the fact that I couldn’t do a live show but would instead stream an old show and still get in the chat.

However, Norman had other ideas and decided to haunt the guys at zFast in Manchester and probably laughed Mr Grimsdale’s tits off by pulling out all those internet cables over there!  So no shoutcast server=no show!

The guys there are great and I assume all will be well next week, but still, there’s why all you got tonight was static hiss…

Lastly, I’ll be using the Disco Scratch Forum a whole lot more now and centralising everything on there.  If you wanna interact with heads that love the Old School UK Hip Hop Scene, get your arse over to the Forum.  Obviously there’s gonna be tons of stuff on FaceBook that’ll slip past the radar, so if you have events you want me to promote or put on the show, leave me a voicemail on the number above or drop me an e-mail.  Centralising info like this will make time more efficient and that way strengthen things.  By all means if you use FaceBook and want to post on my timeline or on the DS group or whatever, go ahead.

I’m just speakin’ my mind here… over the last couple of weeks I have had not much but fuckery and stress goin’ on… and you know what?… a small part of me kept thinking… oh I better just post this and that on FB or Twitter, you know, keep the people up to date… do a few “likes” post a few comments… I have come SOOOOOO close to just fucking the whole lot of it off… seriously… in my personal\work life I have had so much schtuff going on and yet there’s this “other me”…. the “do what everyone else does ‘cos it’s the norm”, interact with everyone, you know… fuck it… is it just me that wants to go back to 4 channels on the telly, your mum and dad kicking off ‘cos you caned the phone in the hallway, getting the train up to London on a Saturday to do all the record shops…

There is no stopping the onward march of technology, there’s no doubt… you either just get on the bandwagon, deal with it & adapt… or you get left behind… but at what stage do we just gat data overload?  The reason I felt compelled to write this… is to be frank I’m disgusted with myself that I did a days graft today, came home and jumped on FaceBook to look at responses to things I posted, what others posted, clicked the like button a few times etc… dropped in a few forums (including my own) and I have this Love/Hate thing going on right now… I mean I love the fact that I can do the radio show, connect with people, learn about what others do…. BUT… where is the filter level to cut the dross out of our digital lives?  I find myself getting interested in shit that really has no importance and offers no resolutions and has no consequences whether I make any comment, like it or not… so what really is the point?

I have met many amazing people through the internet & all the social media outlets that come with it… but you know what… I BET I would know these people anyway, without the internet.

Just imagine for one second that you have no mobile phone, no computer but you love collecting vinyl, you love the buzz of a Saturday afternoon being in the record shops in London, literally getting fresh wax out of those plain white vans… you love bumping into the same people week after week… you love the CUT n THRUST of getting your DIGGERS ELBOWS OUT to make sure sucker punks that want the same wax that you want… you MAKE YOUR STAMP… you get to know the people behind the counter… YOU PAY THAT EXTRA FIVER FOR THAT EXCLUSIVE SHIT… next time you get booked to DJ you slide that plastic on the platter WITH PRIDE cos you know you got those fresh beats.

When did you last have that sensation?  I bought the latest Electro 4 and it turned up in the post yesrerday… did I get the buzz?  NO.

Why?  Is this it?  After spending years having that buzz, being in that place, meeting like minded people, ARE WE DONE?  Please, put me out of my misery in the comments… if I could just switch the cunting internet off, go back to how it was in the early 90s, I GUARAN-FUCKING-TEE a lot of people I have met through the internet I would know anyway, cos the FIENDS THAT LOVE THIS SHIT ALWAYS GRAVITATE TO THE SAME THING…

OK yeah I accept it’s easy to connect to people, but so what?  I’d rather have a conversation on the phone with someone once every 2 months than have a fucking poxeyed “like” every day or throwaway comment.

I’m guilty as charged… I do the same shit that the readers of this post do… you’ll probably think “oh, he’s got a point”, or “yep, I relate” or whatever… maybe “He’s moaning but he does ALL THE SHIT HE’S MOANING ABOUT HERE”… and you’d be right… I suppose we are all in a quandry and there is no way of solving it… we all love the way it was and yearn for it, but we all couldn’t get on without the way it is…

So what’s the solution?  There is no solution, it’ll NEVER go back to how it was 20 years ago, so I guess we’ll all be fucking “Liking”, reposting & spending worthless hours reading and commenting on shit that has no real consequence or impact in our lives for the foreseeable future… I have no solution and no guidance… I am simply LETTING OFF…

To sum up then… there is no point to this, simply a “where my mind is at” statement/post.  Agree/disagree/care/don’t care… it’s whatever you think or feel…. post a comment if you can be arsed, or if not don’t… it’s immaterial…

Raise your glass to the “Like” culture we now live in.
