UK Hip Hop Radio Rips Tape 13

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Capital Rap Show, Dave Pearce GLR, MP3 Download, Tape Rips, UK Hip Hop Radio Shows, Westwood | Posted on 04-02-2010

Well… been a while, eh? Yep nothing from the Palace of Villainy for a good while… still, onwards & upwards, here we are in 2010, so to kick things off for this year (a little late but never mind!) here’s another tape rip from my collection.

This one has no date, but Dave Pearce mentions live on GLR this easter Weekend and I think this was 1989 so gotta be round there somewhere.  This tape’s got audio from the Cash Money & Marvellous Night Network performance they did, I have it on VHS and loved the routine so much I got the audio off my dad’s video recorder onto tape and put it on this one.  Some nice classic Capital Radio jingles and Westwood one liners in here plus the set from DJ Aladdins DMC performance of the year, cuts are fatal, he was the best at transforming back then easily.

Track List:

Side A:

1.Kane – Lean On Me

2.Eazy E – We Want EZ

3.Special Ed – I got It Made

4.All Out Kings (One of my fave Hip Hop crew names EVER!) – Shack It Up (got this on 12, LOVE IT!)

5.??? Cold Ca$h

6.Gig Guide

7.Black Rock & Ron – Tired Of All Of This

8.DEF – Dougie Fresh

9.Stetsasonic – Ain’t Makin it

10…. In My Move

Side B

1.Aladdin DMC routine

2.De La Soul – Brainwashed Followers

3.? But Def!

4.LL Cool J – Rock The Bells

⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓ Night Network N Sign Radio ⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓

5.K9 Posse – Ain’t Nuthin to it

6.Steady B – Serious (BDP Remix)

7.Soul 2 Soul – Keep On Moving

8.Cash Money & Marvellous Live in the studio

Enjoy… I’ll keep uppin’ ‘em, you keep downin’ ‘em!

UK Hip Hop Radio Tape 10

Alright all, soz for lack of updates recently, absolutely no clue why but no new posts I made were appearing, so I’m hoping to get some new (old!) stuff up this week.  The podcasts didn’t materialise due to a stream of computer problems and whatnot, but who cares, here’s the Disco Scratch Funk!

UK Hip Hop Radio 10 insert

Deffo some dope Black Steel on this tape, there’s a Cutmaster Swift interview at the start with Dave Pearce & Westwood has Original Concept in the studio.  This tape should spark your grey matter!

I’m getting a fair amount of downloads now, and as much as I have no problem with “Hit n Runners”, seeing as the stuff I put up is fairly niche, I’d appreciate a few comments from you lot just to see what you think of these tapes.  I would imagine most people that download stuff or subscribe would be similar to be, a British B Boy at heart.

If you didn’t know, I started a forum a mmonth ago, check it out and let’s try to get an old school UK Hip Hop community together.  More here, http://discoscratch.co.uk/forum

Well, that about does it for this one, more demo’s from the vaults of the Palace of Villainy coming from me & DuckAlert, fresh new beats & mixtape uploads soon!

Peace & Hairgrease, Waxoff!

Big Jim & Waxer, SO MUCH CLASS MIXTAPE 1996

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Mixtape, Tape Rips | Posted on 29-04-2009

so_much_class_mp3_cover

AT LAST!

A rip of this has finally come to light, massive props to my man DuckAlert for ripping this and doing the editing, cheers mate!

This tape came about cos me, Jim & Stew (Panoramix) were all going to the Battle Of The Year 1996 in Germany and Jim & I decided to knock up a tape to flog at the event.  So Jim provided most of the Wax and I did the cuts and editing, and we ended up with a pretty fly tape!  The A side is a good mixed up 45 minutes of past flavours, loads of tracks mixed up in there, and the flip is all the latest import 12s that were out at the time.  It was so dope to hear this again as I sold all the tapes and lost the master!  Luckily DuckAlert had one kicking about and blessed me with it.  Here’s the cover with the tracklist:

So Much Class 1996 Mixtape

So Much Class 1996 Mixtape

So I am really chuffed to be uploading this as I thought it was lost forever, and this was pre computers for me, so the A side was done on a Tascam Porta 05 4 track, and the flip just a straight mix on my 1210s done in one hit.

Try and pass the word round on this one, it’s a snorter… enjoy!

Waxer’s Tape Rips – Old School UK Hip Hop Radio 8

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Tape Rips, UK Hip Hop Radio Shows, Westwood | Posted on 02-04-2009

disco_scratch_hip_hop_8_tapeThis tape features many of the biggest artists with the biggest tunes at the time.  Also featuring Cutmaster Swifts winning ’89 mix from the DMCs, with Scratch Professor’s mix also.

More of Tim’s dulcit tones, a dodgy mini mix from me (as DJ Radiate) to cover an advert in the tape and some UK Hip Hop news to top it off.

Back to ’89 y’all!!!

Enjoy!

Side A:

1.Jungle Brothers – Black is Black (remix)
2.NWA – Straight Outta Compton
3.Ultras – Give The Drummer Some
4.Ultras – Moe Luv’s Theme
5.?
6.DJ Mark The 45 King Interview
7.Lakim Shabazz – First In Existence
8.Stezo – To The Max
9.Kwame – The Boy Genius
10.Antoinette – Getting Dub Wise
11.NWA – It Ain’t Enough
12.Stezo – It’s My Turn
13.Cutmaster Swift Winning Mix 1989 DMC

disco_scratch_hip_hop_8_front

Side B

1.Scratch Professor DMC mix
2.DJ Radiate’s Mini Mix (My Gap Filler)
3.London Hip Hop Top 10
4.Shinehead – Gimme No Crack
5.Kwame – You Gotta Get Down
6.De La Soul – Ghetto Thang
7.Stezo – To The Max
8.NWA – Express Yourself
9.EPMD – Get Off the Bandwagon
10.Break 2 Beat Version Excursion
11.De La Soul – Say No Go
12.Steady B – Serious
13.Ultras – Give The Drummer Some

disco_scratch_hip_hop_8_backOverall a dope tape with a lot of the major players in 1989 featured.  Amazing how things have moved on… I mean Swifts mix was great, but listen to how off beat it was!  My mini mix wouldn’t have won a contest down Woolworth’s with just me and Mrs Williams from no 42 who has never seen a turntable before, so I’m not one to dis Swift!  Hope you enjoy and you get some good memories!

Shedloads of Old School UK Tape Rips!!!!!

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Capital Rap Show, Disco Scratch Stuff, Mike Allen, Tape Rips | Posted on 19-03-2009

Now and again on mhy internet travels I come across people who are of a similar min set and also extremely generous!

I’m a member of oldschoolhiphop.com (sup fam over there!!!) and got a message off a new member, Bobby Dazzler.  He has sent me links to loads of tape rips for Mike Allen, live stuff in the UK, various old acts etc.  I have literally copied the mail he sent me and pasted it straight in here, so maximum respect to him.

As these are not my own tape rips, I can’t vouch for the standard of the quality of any of them, so you’ll have to be the judge of that!

Massive props to Mr Dazzler for these, head over to OSHH to say thanks!  Here’s a thread that features links to a lot of other Mike Allen shows:

Greg Wilson – No Sell Out Mix

Posted by Waxer | Posted in CD Rip, Greg Wilson, Mix CD | Posted on 06-03-2009

greg-samurai

This is the second mix in a series of 4 CDs that I am uploading here.  You can cop the first one, an alternative mix of Electro UK HERE.  It is the first part of a 2 part mix.  As it is such a great mix, I wanted to get the full fat, and so it is ripped at 320kbps/16 bit/44.1khz/stereo MP3.

Greg did this mix for Samurai FM back in 2005.  There is a page on his site dedicated to this mix so I won’t go into too much depth here, but please go to the mix on his site, Electro Funk Roots .  There is also a page on Samurai FM, which you can find HERE.

Here is a single paragraph quote from Electro Funk Roots, which sums up the mix:

“It’s difficult to believe that this show, a retrospective of the influential tracks from 1982/83, pre-dated the acid house explosion by half a decade yet the sounds still sound so fresh more than 20 years later and in them you can easily identify the origins of the genres that continue to push the scene forward to this day. Equally as impressive is that a mix such as this is possible given the complexities of the remixing and editing of tracks involved in this mix with the technology available at the time. Today production and DJ technology may have developed light years compared to what they were then but the ideas they were based on are still mainly used to this day.”

Here’s the tracklist, trust me it really is a dope mix!  Download at the bottom….  Once again, many thanks to Greg himself.

UK Fresh 86 Tape 2 Disco Scratch

UK Fresh 86 Tape 2 Disco Scratch

Content has been a bit thin over recent weeks my fellow Disco Scratchers, but a bumper update this week should vanquish the hunger pains for that old school material.  Look out for more demo tracks from the vault, late 80s Westwood & Dave Pearce tapes and the next Simon Harris LP.

Anyway, UK Fresh ’86… this tape represents the end of part 1 and first part of part 2.  This is because when Capital put the show out, it was 2 2 hour shows over a Friday and Saturday night, but obviously tapes are only an hour and a half, so hence 3 tapes.

It was great relistening to the tape again, some particularly dope performances.  Not a lot more to say, enjoy the tape & pass the word around that DS has got those nuggets from the crates you need!  Til’ next time, WAXOFF…!

See the tippex on this tape?  The first 10 tapes in this series were the ones I used over and over from Mike Allen days.  The tippex was used to cover over whatever was on previously… what a shame, but still, my man Big Jim is going to contribute a very large Mike Allen collection for the Disco Scratch listeners, so look out for that soon.

Waxer’s Tape Rips Hip Hop # 6.  No exact date on this one but I think autumn 1989 is a good bet.

Look out for shouts to Graf Crews throughout this tape, you may have a shout out!!

This tape has got a lot of stuff from the UK scene at the time, as in what was going on, news of events at the time, an interview with the She Rockers, a DJ Pogo set and those famous phone shout outs from UK homeboys trying to sound as hardcore as possible!

What made me laugh with this tape was listening to the KCJ mixes and remember thinking at the time how can he be on the radio and be sooooo bad?  I mean even my mixing at the time was better than that!  You had decent UK DJs that weren’t on the radio absolutely slaughtering him!  But you know what?  I wouldn’t change a thing, it gave me a fuzzy warm feeling that he was probably poo-ing himself and messing the mixes up, made it all seem more human and accessible!

Anyway, enjoy!

Beats from the vaults, demo tracks # 1

Posted by Waxer | Posted in Audio, Tape Rips, Waxer Demo Track | Posted on 03-02-2009

midisetup

Like most people involved in Hip Hop music, I started dabbling with a double tape deck doing pause button mixes.  Back in the day (1984) I had access to my dads’ beautifully engineered Technics tape deck with all its’ fabulous clunkiness.  The pause button on this was second to none and I used to use it with another nameless tape deck I had borrowed.  Problem was layering tracks as one was faster than the other so I had to swap the way I recorded each time.  This progressed when I got a music centre with a double tape on it.  Much easier but pause buttons were not as accurate as the Tech, so this needed cunning to get the edits the way you wanted it.

Around 1988 or 1989 I got a Commodore Amiga 500 and a Tascam 4 track recorder and this was off the richter for old Stevie Boy, and it’s from this era that I started to actually save tracks.  The tape I am ripping these from is actually my backup tape as I seem to have lost the original, so it’s second generation.  I still have the original 4 track master tapes but to way of getting the recordings off.  SO if anyone has got a 4 track let me know ‘cos I need one!

This first track was from around 1990 and is instrumental, as were most of my beats unless I put an accapella over the top.  I actually rhymed on a couple of tracks which will see the light of this blog at some point!  The track uses samples from Children Of The Corn 2, Bob James and a couple of raw breakbeats I looped up which I can’t remember where from, but I know I must have the original somewhere as the only breakbeat albums I had then were originals, except Simon Harris which doesn’t count as they are gash anyway!

It’s an above mid tempo but not mega fast tune which reminds me of the scene at the time, very raw and much more concentrated on beats and rhymes as opposed to slick production.  Anyway, as with all my tracks they are only demo versions, mostly unmastered and not of fantastic quality, but hey, they are in most cases 15 to 20 years old so who cares?!  Also the names were only working titles, and as this one has samples of Children Of The Corn and is a Britcore tune, I called it Brit Corn (dodgy I know, but at least I knew what tune I meant!)

Anyway, here’s the audio…
